A small but perfectly formed salon (newly furbished) in the heart of Knightsbridge. Rani has devoted following, a mixture well-shod locals as well as loyal pilgrims from out of town.

Atmosphere and ethos: It’s not a New-Age kind of salon, but it feels very relaxing and, more importantly, professional Nothing is too much trouble: temperature adjustments, glasses of water, extra blankets and cushions. There is no hard sell of products or further treatments, and Rani is completely bespoke: you get whatever your skin needs.

Treatments and products: Our salon spy booked for a Palme d’Or facial, £170, a two-hour super-indulgent experience to store and revitalise skin She enjoyed a double cleanse, gel peel, steam and extraction followed by another, deep exfoliation with a micro-peel. Next was a relaxing massage of the face , neck and shoulders, a lifting mask and micro-current lifting treatment all finished off with a firming mask and one last divine massage (Rani has very good hands).

Marks out of five: Six (yes she really is that good).
